Why You Need to Know Your Footprint Size

Want to contribute something simple to the movement for OneEarth living? Know your footprint size and, in every appropriate conversation, ask people about theirs. Knowing your ecological footprint size gives you your baseline from which to make new choices for OneEarth living. Without that knowledge, we will inevitably make assumptions and live without putting our feet down firmly on Earth.

Why I Named Two Rival Worldviews "MultiEarth" and "OneEarth"

Written the way I write them, MultiEarth and OneEarth, are new words. I use them to name the two worldviews that stand at odds with one another today, though they also go by other names. I like MultiEarth and OneEarth because they immediately convey the truth that only one of the two lives INSIDE the capacities of our magnificent planet. The other requires multiple Earths—an impossibility that creates systems designed to give a minority of people most of the resources while depriving most of the people and other species of even their one Earth share.

What Political Economist, Barry Shelley, Says about “Blinded by Progress”

For the past decade Barry Shelley and I have shared treasured experiences. My only complaint is that they’ve been too few. As I go into detail about in my book, Blinded by Progress, Barry helped me see that the current economy functions as one of the world’s leading religions. More precisely, the leading religion.

David Wogahn Led Me thru the Labyrinth of Self-Publishing

People have asked me: “How did you format your manuscript for publication? How did you decide which eBook formats to use?” Simple answer: Sellbox, Inc. A couple years ago I heard Sellbox managing partner David Wogahn talk with writers about getting their work published. I kept him in mind because I thought, “I like what I’m hearing and might want to go to this guy when I get to that place with my manuscript.”

Flipping Through the Just-Arrived Review Copy of "Blinded by Progress"

A “review copy” of Blinded by Progress just arrived during the past hour. The idea is that I can see what a print copy of the book will look like. IF I see something that I feel must be changed, that can still be done before the book goes out in eBook and print form. Flipping through the 208 pages—that includes the “Glossary,” “Index,” “Related Reading,” and “Endnotes”—hey, “I’m good with it!” But I’ll see what a more careful perusal reveals.

Pleased to Have an English Professor Endorse "Blinded by Progress;" Thanks, Lisa

Lisa SpauldingWhen she discovered I was writing a book, Lisa said, “I’m a voracious reader. Could I read it?” “Well, sure!” I responded, taken aback by her request. I figured it was all to the good to have an English professor give it a read. Over a year and a couple of rewrites later, when I began thinking of people who’d be willing to give the book an endorsement, I thought Lisa might. She didn’t hesitate when I checked if she would. “Sure, send it over.”

A Foreword by Chuck Collins, the Back Cover, Final Edits—Last Items before Publication

Chuck CollinsWhat a learning curve I’m in! Every week I learn more about the fascinating, rapid-change world of publishing a book. This past week the “Foreword” arrived, written by Chuck Collins. I met Chuck some years ago in Boston when he was working with United for a Fair Economy. Now he’s a senior scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies, a D.C. think tank that just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Chuck has written several books on wealth inequality and the transition to a new economy, so it’s a treat to have him write the “Foreward” to Blinded by Progress.
