Maybe We Don't Want Our Investments to Grow (Much)

It’s assumed that we want our investments to grow. But wanting our own portfolios to grow and grow does not reconcile with being stewards of a planet that has limits, or living inside of her community of life—instead of above it. Seeking a new approach to investing is part of OneEarth living. However, since everyone with a pension is counting on growth of investments, we go against our own self-interest if we opt for anything less than a growing portfolio. Or do we? I’m proposing here that growing our portfolio can actually be going against our self-interest. Other than hedging on cost of living, growth does not fit as a strategy for this planet at the moment.

Questions That Take Us to the Edge: "Seeking OneEarth Progress"

The “Pastor’s Forum” should have been called “Firing Line” when I presented there. What great questions and comments came from those attending. They didn’t even wait until I had completed showing the 24 slides I’d presented. By the way, you can watch the presentation yourself because it’s free online at Slideshare.net. But about half way through, as I was talking about my quest for a strong economy that does not require unending growth from a planet with limits, this question was fired at me: Do you have investments in the stock market? What would you want the CEO of the companies to do that you’re invested in?

Getting Beyond Dualism of Economics vs. Religion, Money & Spirituality

Dualistic thinking keeps Spirit and Matter separate in the MultiEarth view of the world. I mean really SEPARATE—with a hard bold line between them! OneEarth thinking, on the other hand, sees a world in which Matter is infused with Spirit. In OneEarth consciousness, as in quantum physics, Matter and Spirit are as difficult to separate as wave and particle are in defining light.

That gets me to how OneEarth consciousness thinks of economics and religion. For most of my life economics and religion have been as separate as baseball and gardening. It’s not true for me anymore, but in a group I met with recently some challenged my description of the economy as religion.

Earth Day Love: Kisses and Promises

What’s the biggest day of the year for this website? Earth Day, of course. And this year it comes on Tuesday, April 22, or any nearby day when your community celebrates it. It’s the day we kiss the ground—just a way to show Earth we love her and feel her love back.

Just how big is this biggest day of the year for OneEarth living? The Earth Day website says: one billion people celebrate annually.

Is Being OneEarth Maladjusted? It Feels Exhilarating! Really!

Big fossil fuel corporations, all vigorous MultiEarth fundamentalist entities, have been doubting and denying that Earth’s changing climate is happening. Or if it’s happening, it’s not caused by humans. Or if it’s caused by humans, don’t worry we’ll take care of it. At the opposite end of the spectrum are organizations of scientists and environmentalists. The consensus of science (97% of scientists globally) has joined environmental groups in describing ever more details of how Earth’s changes in climate are happening, changing bug and animal patterns, contributing to extinctions, and caused by humans. In between the doubting, denying corporations and the scientists-environmentalists reports and activism are the rest of Earth’s 7.2 billion. Most accept at some level that climate change is happening BUT DON’T WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT. Here at the OneEarth Project we think about it. A lot. Are we maladjusted?

Wanted: Earnest Seekers to Answer "How Can Our Footprint Ecologically Fit Our Planet?"

Our OneEarthIn the past week, two different groups discussing my book, Blinded by Progress, have asked me the question: “How can I have a footprint that is 1.0, i.e., that uses no more than the resources of one planet?” The OneEarth Project joins with all earnest seekers to answer that question, but does not yet have the answer. We do, however, know that (1) earnest seekers need to develop the depth of consciousness and soul to face and deconstruct MultiEarth living, and (2) practice and teach lifestyles, business models, policies, and economic models that tilt toward or embody OneEarth living in every way we can.

A Book Club Discusses Our Shrinking Humanness and Corporatocracy's Attack on Democracy

On a recent Sunday evening, Juanita and I gathered with a local Book Club who’d invited us because they were reading my book, Blinded by Progress. One of the Book Club participants joked, “I knew the author was coming, so I wrote out my answers to the questions. I’m expecting a test.” It was a fun way for her to tell us that she was prepared for the night.
