Give That Book Club 5 Stars

Here’s a sampling of what moved along the conversation at the book club I was invited to last week. I loved responding to all the topics, and loved hearing their thoughts too. How would you respond to the following questions and comments? Are you a capitalist or a socialist? What does a OneEarth economy actually look like? Is anyone doing it? Give some examples. How can we bring population under control and into balance with other species? Opposing control of offspring, by religion or politics, just doesn’t fit with today’s reality. Can we really have economies with strength if they are not growing? How?

Not Yet a OneEarth Thinker and Doer, But on the Way

Somewhere in the last couple of years the thought came to mind: “Lee, you likely don’t have the size consciousness you need to think and live in OneEarth ways.” A humbling thought that took me only a short time before totally agreeing with it.

And then it got exciting! No need to be defensive, I realized. What’s important is to embrace the adventure of consciousness change. Of growing from superpower consciousness and MultiEarth thinking to Earth-size consciousness. I really liked seeing this as an adventure of personal evolution into capacities I’ve flirted with, sometimes lived into. But now I intentionally took on the assignment to increase my consciousness and seek more mature, in-harmony relationships with all of Earth’s creatures and systems.

Two Great Corrective Works Underway: Earth's and Ours

Our Great Work in the 21st century is to change our relationship with Earth, with all species. and with ourselves. This heroic effort requires inner and outer coordination. In making inner change, we must wend our way into greater topographies of consciousness. In making outer change, we increase those actions that were not possible until we worked our way into greater consciousness.

Simultaneously with our Great Work, the Earth, our planetary home in this stunning universe, is engaging in her Great Work. The grand Cenozoic Era, 65 million years in duration, is coming to an end.

Delicious Fresh Water Decreasing ... Way too Fast!

So much water and so little to drink. Just 2% of our planet’s water is fresh; 98% is in the oceans! And among the many changes happening on our planet, one shows fresh water sources declining rapidly. Faster than we thought. We’ve also begun changes that use less water … finally! Can we speed them up? As of August 1, regulations on water have become mandatory across California. I wish they’d include a moratorium on the intense uses of water such as fracking, industrialized beef farms, grass lawns (reduction of water use in effect) and private pools. They do not.

Increasing Our Practical Choices for OneEarth Living

Because I answer that question with a “No!” that resounds through my heart, body, and soul, I am greatly motivated to work on increasing our practical choices for OneEarth living.

Being in Love—the Strongest "Energy Drink" to Boost Our Changes to OneEarth Ways

What’s the greatest energy for changing our lives and systems to live within our Earth’s bio-systems? It’s not more facts. It’s not new technology. Not a better paying job or professional achievement. Nor is it fear. No, the greatest source of energy for change on our planet is being in love. “Red Bull” step aside. New choices are empowered when our love for the entire Earth Community flows. Our love for animals and the biological diversity of Earth Community is widespread. We humans continually fall in love with the sheer Mystery that is Earth. Invoking love does not, however, factor into the economics of the MultiEarth story, whereas it’s at the core of the OneEarth worldview and economy. Just speak with the people who have stopped buying from chain stores, or with those who are farming small organic farms, or those engaged in urban farming. All convey their passionate love for what they are doing.
