End of January is global summit time in the Swiss Alpine resort of Davos. Two thousand corporate executives, major investors, central bankers, celebrities and government leaders gathered this year. Among them are 80 billionaires and hundreds of millionaires—the world’s aristocracy.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) website says:

The World Economic Forum encourages businesses, governments and civil society to commit together to improving the state of the world. Our Strategic and Industry Partners are instrumental in helping stakeholders meet key challenges such as building sustined economic growth, mitigating global risks, promoting health for all, improving social welfare and fostering environmental sustainability.

Sounds great! But then when we realize that all in attendance have been the ones who’ve banked nearly all the profits following the 2008 crash and that they are the leading polluters and contributors to the destabilization of our planet, … well, it’s just words. What they really do wouldn’t make for an inviting webpage.

The folks gathering in Davos have mastered the art of adding green language to their webpage and ads. They also add small green companies to their holdings and contribute to some environmental groups. But the overwhelming focus of their activities pillages Earth and undercuts democracies.

The people of the WEF who’ve now returned to their countries continue to be the primary builders of the illusion which we must break out of.
