The Earth-Self Call: An Invitation Not to Be Missed

What’s an Earth-Self Call? It’s geology, psychology, and spirituality coming together with a strong invitation, a summons, if you will, on what is to be the deep purpose of one’s life. The Invitation from Earth and Self comes to all of us. It rings like an alarm beside the bed of MultiEarth civilization. For the elite of the world intent on conserving and expanding the wealth and power, this Call is most unwelcome. Egos and the Civilization Project don’t want to wake up to Earth and Self. Nonetheless, the Invitation finds resonance in our psyches (souls).

Einstein Said Survival Requires a "Substantially New Manner of Thinking"—Are We Getting There?

Einstein 1921 by F Schmutzer The atomic bomb changed the world in 1945. Physicist Albert Einstein, a devoted pacifist, was barely involved at all, but recognized that the problem of human and ecological destruction it delivered placed on humans the demand to move to new thinking, to greater consciousness. He saw the delusional nature of the kind of thinking that created nuclear power. He called it “a kind of prison.” He believed that by expanding our circle of compassion to include nature and all creatures we could get out of prison. The problems nuclear power created would require a “substantially new manner of thinking” from that which sought to create nuclear power.

Re-Centering in Earth-Consciousness after Getting Off-Center

So many things demand the center of our attention. However, nothing demanding the center can be there without our consent. We choose what we put at the center of our consciousness. It’s a wonderful power to claim because, at this moment in time, our species has gotten off-center and needs to re-center.

Here’s what I mean.

In the big picture, Earth is now demanding the center of our attention through all the ecological crises. Our children and grandchildren want us to agree that Earth is a deserving center for our consciousness. The viability of their lives in the remainder of this century absolutely depends on us living Earth-centered ways. Civilization has gotten us off-center.

Sizing Up Our Great Work

Two provocative quotes stand as epigraphs at the head of Chapter Two in my next book. The first is from Thomas Berry; the second from Jungian psychotherapist James Hollis.

(1) The Great Work now, as we move into a new millennium, is to carry out the transition from a period of human devastation of the Earth to a period when humans would be present to the planet in a mutually beneficial manner. This historical change is something more than the transition from the classical Roman period to the medieval period, or from the medieval period to modern times. Such a transition has no historical parallel since the geobiological transition that took place 67 million years ago when the period of the dinosaurs was terminated and a new biological age begun.

(2) It is far easier to walk in shoes too small for us than to step into the largeness that soul expects and demands.

The Heroic Journey to Keep Earth Livable

The opening page of my upcoming book, From Egos to Eden: Our Heroic Journey to Keep Earth Livable, quotes physicist Albert Einstein (1875-1959) as saying that we need a substantially new manner of thinking in order to see ourselves as part of the whole of Nature and the Universe. When we doubt that our species is capable of this tall order, it is because we have not yet come to believe how great a change happens to us when we move into larger topographies of consciousness.

Fun, Affordable Way to Get a Professional Design for Your Book Cover, Tee Shirt, etc.

Pre-publication promotion of a book isn’t an area where I put much confidence in what I know. So, I contacted David Wogahn, Sellbox, Inc., who helped my format, publish, and promote my first book. David makes it his purpose to help authors interested in indie publishing their work and does a great job. When I contacted him, he immediately had an idea for me to start on right away. It was getting a cover design done by submitting a description of the kind of cover I wanted to 99designs, an online cover-designing company that attracts freelance designers. What a great idea!

Cover Art for My Next Book: Artist John August Swanson

If you are not yet acquainted with the art of John August Swanson, it’s time. His art is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian. His painting, “The Procession,” was selected by the Vatican to be part of the Vatican’s Museum of Contemporary Religious Art. He is included in print collections in the U.S. and Europe. What a treat, then, that he’s agreed that his “Into the Forest” would be the cover art for my next book. From Egos to Eden: Our Heroic Journey to Keep Earth Livable. I met John in 2010 at a conference in San Diego, where he was the conference artist.
