One of the places to find out what people are reading is Goodreads.com. Opening your own account is free. Do it and shortly you’re finding out highly recommended reads in genres you most like. Plus, you can register for book Giveaways. Below, I’ll tell you about registering my book for such a giveaway.

Goodreads has a huge and rapidly expanding membership and catalog of books. As an author, I was eager to get my book posted. So, I opened an account and got to work on my profile and book description.

Then I learned that they have the Goodreads Giveaway program. It’s a month-long registration for copies of the book an author has agreed to give away. It’s all about increasing interest in the book, of course. I registered to give away 10 books. People can enter the “contest” anytime between Jan. 20 and Feb. 21. Click here and you can register for a freebie. I hope you will. As of now, over 200 people have registered for one of my books. On Feb. 22, Goodreads will tell me the 10 winners. Then I will mail the 10 lucky winners their free book. Their only obligation is to review it on Goodreads.

In case you’re wondering, Goodreads is both quite new and big. It was launched in 2007. Wikipedia’s entry on Goodreads says that

In December 2007, the site had over 650,000 members[4] and over 10,000,000 books had been added.[5] As of July 2012, the site reported 10 million members, 20 million monthly visits, and 30 employees.[6] On July 23, 2013, it was announced on their website that the user base had grown to 20 million members, doubling in close to 11 months.[7]

Hoping you have lots of goodreads in your life. Be sure to review them for all the other “goodreaders” who’ll be interested to see what you’re reading and what you thought about it.
